Bhubaneswar: Alleging mishandling of investigation by the police into the murder of a youth inside a liquor shop near Pankapal under Kujang block of Jagatsinghpur district in November last year, the family has finally knocked the doors of the Odisha Police DG seeking justice.

Ullash Jena, the deceased salesman in the liquor shop, was charred to death inside the shop on November 5 last year and ever since the family has been fighting for a fair investigation into their son’s death.

The family members today appealed at the DG office here to give them justice and ensure unbiased and serious probe of the case.

According to the allegations, despite a significant early effort, the investigation of the murder was flawed and cut short within a few days after the incident.

Despite having evidence from the CCTV footage, there was no progress in investigation as the police failed to arrest the persons involved in torching Ullash as well as the liquor shop. Though the local police said that the case was handed over to the Crime Branch, there was no such evidence that the Crime Branch has taken the case.

The family members further alleged the investigation came to a halt after sources revealed that the torched documents inside the shop had details of monthly extortion money taken by police personnel and income tax department.

Apart from this, the family is getting threat letters from the miscreants in which they have warned not to interfere in the investigation.

“The CCTV footage clearly showed that Ullash was torched in the shop. It’s been eight months and 10 days now, I have been fighting for the arrest of the two miscreants. As long as the miscreants are not arrested, our family will be in danger,” said Ullash’s brother Umesh Jena.
