Koraput: A police complaint was filed on Saturday alleging financial irregularities at Jagannath Temple in Koraput.
The temple's operating committee lodged the complaint after a payment of Rs 6,97,900 via cheque for providing iron angles in 2012 was made to the wrong company.
Following which Koraput police started an investigation into the case. The matter came to light after a private company, JK engineering, who actually provided the iron angles asked the committee to clear its dues.
"After not receiving the payment we approached the committee but they said they had already paid. We were then asked to give a written complaint to the committee, " said J . Venkat Rao, owner of JK Engineering.
According to sources, the payment of the iron angles was done through cheque to a company named Scan Fabrication through Andhra Bank, however, it is unknown how this company managed to get the payment.
"When we asked the Utkal Gramya Bank about the recipient of the cheque of Rs 6,97,900, they said the payment was done through Andhra Bank to Scan Fabrication," said Secretary of Jagannath Mandir Operating Committee, Gadadhar Parida.
Later, a meeting was conducted between higher officials and a complaint was registered against the owner of Scan Fabrication, Swarnalata Behera, on the direction of the District Collector.
As per reports, Behera has not responded yet as she is currently out of the state.
"After a report was submitted by the Secretary of the Committee on the fraudulent transaction, a case with the number 120/18 has been registered at the police station and an investigation is currently underway," said Inspector-in-charge of Koraput Town Police Station, Ramesh Kumar Debta.
