Bhubaneswar:  After tagging it as a ‘Red Flag’ category case, Odisha Police on Thursday formed special teams to conduct a detailed investigation into the gang rape of a minor girl allegedly by ‘men in uniform’ at Pottangi in Koraput district.

DGP RP Sharma informed that five police teams are on the job while investigation into the case is going on in full swing in connection with the incident that has led to public outcry in State.

“The teams are conducting a detailed probe while security personnel of nearby camps are also being examined. Only after investigation progresses, the accused behind the incident can be identified,” said Sharma.

Sharma further stated that the investigation is being conducted based on the preliminary statement of the survivor. A detailed statement will be recorded after she recovers.

A class IX minor girl was gang raped by four persons suspected to be jawans deployed for anti-Maoist operations in the district on October 10.

A red flag case was registered at Pottangi Police Station in this connection under sections 376 (D) and 377 of IPC and section 6 of Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
