Bhubaneswar: Odisha’s architectural marvel, the Konark Sun Temple will be embossed in the new Rs 10 currency note in the Gandhi series to be issued by the Reserve Bank of India (RBI).

As per initial reports, the country’s central bank will be issuing the new currency in chocolate brown colour and the design has already been cleared by the government.

“We have come across a few articles on the internet about issue of new Rs 10 note with the picture of Sun Temple. Though we are yet to get any confirmation, it is certainly good news as a heritage site from Odisha has been included in the currency,” said Kartik Das, a resident of Cuttack.

Also known as the Black Pagoda, the Sun Temple in Konark is also a symbol of India’s heritage and is one of the major tourist destinations in Odisha.

The Reserve Bank of India had earlier changed the design of the old Rs 10 note in 2005 while new Rs 200 and Rs 50 notes under Mahatma Gandhi series were introduced in August last year.
