Konark: Visitors to the world-famous Sun Temple had a harrowing time today as most parts of the temple turned into artificial pools with knee deep water clogged on its premises within few hours of rain.

Though in 2010 the State government had announced Rs 1 crore investment to improve the Sun Temple's drainage system and ensure proper discharge of storm water, water-logging on the premises of the world heritage site persists. More than two feet water is clogged on northern side of the Sun Temple.

Concerned over the safety of the world heritage, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed last year in the Orissa High Court stating that water-logging poses serious threat to the heritage structure and causes inconvenience to tourists.
