Cuttack: In a bid to include transgenders in the mainstream, Cuttack district administration has taken a new initiative by appointing seven Kinnars as Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) at the District Judge Court.

The volunteers will help people, including transgenders dealing with various legal issues by coordinating them with the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA). Several problems brought to the notice of the DLSA can be resolved immediately and the PLVs will also be involved in spreading legal awareness among all sections of people.

Sources said the newly appointed Kinnars will be imparted training after which they will join duty.

Cuttack District Judge Satya Mishra said, “We have appointed seven Kinnars as PLVs on the basis of their eligibilities. People from all sections of society, including transgenders who have difficulty in dealing with legal issues can get legal services easily through these PLVs. They will work as our representatives and messengers to serve the society.”

Switi, a transgender said, “I am very happy today. This will be a great platform for Kinnars to serve the society in the days to come.”
