Kin discard body of HIV patient

Balangir: In an unfortunate incident, family members of a HIV patient discarded the body after the death of the patient.

The incident was reported at Balangir district headquarters hospital on Saturday.

According to reports, the body lie unattended on the hospital bed after the family members of the deceased did not turn up to receive it.

“The man died around 3.30 pm yesterday. As soon as he died, his wife, who was with him here, left the hospital,” said a nurse on duty.

“He was not staying with us since last 12 years. He was residing at his in-laws house. But when he died, they left the hospital leaving his body unattended,” father of the deceased said.

Asked about the incident to wife of the deceased, she said, “He died around 3.30 pm yesterday. I have been informed that his body was handed over to the family members.”

“The ADMO of the district headquarters called us and informed us about the incident. The hospital officials were waiting for the family member of the deceased to hand over the body, but none of them turn up,” said Prasant Patnaik, IIC of Balangir Town police station.

After a report in this regard aired on OTV, the hospital authorities have shifted the body to the morgue.
