Bhubaneswar: The annual Khandagiri Mela that began at the Khandagiri cave foothills here on the occasion of Magha Saptami on Friday is drawing huge footfalls.

Leaders and followers of various Hindu religious sects from different states have assembled here in large numbers to perform rituals of Nama Yajna and Sankirtana Yajna to commemorate the event. Meanwhile, large numbers of visitors are enjoying the much-awaited event that showcases the crafts fair, Odia Jatra and various food stalls.

“The Kumbh Mela along with the history of Khandagiri-Udaygiri caves makes it a promising event altogether. A wide variety of household handicraft stalls and food stalls have been put up to attract the visitors in the locality. However, the main attraction for the visitors has been the evening Opera,” Manas Ranjan Das, a localite said.
