Kathjodi mishap: Rail safety commission's probe from Oct 3

Cuttack: The railway safety commission will probe the train accident at Kathajodi Station which left 2 dead and many injured.

According to sources, the commission will begin its probe from October 13 and as a part of its investigation it will record statements of eye witnesses present on the spot. Any members of the public present at the spot can record statement with the commission. The date and time of recording of statements will be conveyed to the public through media, informed sources.

“The commission will investigate the sequence of events that took place. Secondly, the role of all the departments in during and following the accident will be reviewed,” said CPRO of ECoR Jyoti Prakash Mishra.

On the other hand, the ECoR has announced ex-gratia compensation to the family members of the deceased. According to the CPRO of ECoR, an ex-gratia of Rs 50, 000 will be provided to the families of the deceased, while the critically injured will receive Rs 25,000 and Rs 5,000 will be given to the persons who have sustained minor injuries in the accident.

Meanwhile, 19 persons injured in the accident have been discharged after primary treatment while 16 persons who were critically injured in the accident are undergoing treatment at the SCB Hospital in Cuttack. Out to the 17 critically injured persons, 6 are women.

“We expect most of the injured to be discharged within a couple of days. There are a couple of injured persons who need surgery. Mostly, everyone’s health condition is stable,” said Cuttak collector Nirmal Chandra Mishra.

A team led by the medical superintendent has been set up to oversee the treatment of the injured.

Notably, the Bhubaneswar-Bhadrak DMU rammed into a stationery goods train at Kathajodi station on Thursday evening.
