Bhubaneswar: After being pushed to the wall, tortured and ostracised, a family in Athgarh is now moving from pillar to post seek justice to live with dignity.

The family on Thursday sought Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik’s intervention against the injustice meted out to them for raising voice against the atrocities of a Sarpanch’s son.

“Today, we had come to appeal the Chief Minister against the torture and all the family members will commit suicide if such torture continues,” said Sanatan Sahu of Anantpur village.

Sahu alleged that Sarpanch’s son had beaten up the family members for accidentally running into his vehicle on August 6.

“We had gone to purchase rakhi when he (Sarpanch’s son) dashed his vehicle against us. When my grandfather opposed, he was brutally beaten up,” said Madhusmita, the eight-year-old girl.

Members of the family alleged that they have been osctracised by Sarpanch even though the matter was mutually resolved. Villagers were also asked to cut all ties with the family or they will be fined Rs 5,000.
