Gumudumaha (Kandhamal): The five-day Adhikar Yatra launched by the Congress in Kandhamal district to protest against the State Government’s failure in providing justice to the family members of the five innocent villagers, who were killed in unprovoked firing by SOG personnel on July 8, would conclude today.

Congress activists will took out a procession from Mahasingh Thakurani temple to Baliguda Town, where they would hold a mass protest meeting. Around 10,000 party activists from various blocks in the district would join the Padayatra and meeting.

Party heavyweights like Chairman of the Congress cell on scheduled castes K Raju, AICC Odisha in-charge BK Hariprasad, his deputy Subhankar Sarkar, PCC president Prasad Harichandan and former presidents Jayadev Jena, former Chief Minister Hemanand Biswal and ex Nabarangpur MP Pradeep Majhi would attend the meeting.

The party alleged that the State Government has not taken any action against the erring security personnel who had gunned down the innocent villagers, including an infant, even one month after the incident.

To prevent any unpleasant incident on the concluding day of the Padayatra, a total of 10 platoons of police force have been deployed at various strategic locations. Besides, 30 police officials, including the Baliguda SDPO, have been entrusted with the task to maintain law and order.
