Phulbani: Protesting the shocking death of five innocent villagers allegedly during an anti-Maoist operation in Malapanga forest near Kurtamgarh in Kandhamal district, Maoists have called for a two-day bandh in Rayagada and Kandhamal districts beginning today.

Though government bus movement is completely halted on account of the bandh, vehicular traffic emained normal in some places.

Maoists posters were seen at various places in both the districts in which the secretary of the Basdhara, Ghumusur and Nagabali division Umakant has strongly condemned the attacks on civilians and has demanded Rs 25 lakh compensation to the kin of the deceased.

Maoists have also demanded Rs 10 lakh compensation for the injured and registration of murder case against the concerned police officials.

Keeping in mind the bandh call, security has been beefed up in both the districts. Police have set up check posts and are checking all vehicles plying in these two districts.

Kandhamal SP Pinak Mishra said Police is on high alert and prepared to deal with the situation.
