Kandhamal: With only two days left for Christmas, a district-level peace committee was held under the chairmanship of Collector Brunda D on Thursday to ensure peaceful celebration of the occasion.

Besides various community leaders, SP Mitrabhanu Mohapatra, ADM Pradipta Kumar Sahani, PD DRDA Sarat Chandra Panda and all BDOs attended the meeting.

“The main agenda of discussion was how to celebrate the festival at all levels in the district in a peaceful manner. All the community leaders have been urged to maintain peace and focus on development in the district,” said the Collector.

Besides, the community leaders have assured to cooperate with the district administration and will not call for any bandh on the day particularly, she added.

It was unanimously decided that a development committee meeting involving all community leaders will be held in coming days to bring back normalcy in the district.

Besides, Kui Samaj Samanwaya Samiti (KSSS), a tribal outfit, will observe the day as Martyr’s Day to mark the death anniversary of their leader Khageswar Mallick, who was killed in the village on December 25, 2007 in the Kandhamal riots. But, the outfit will not call for any bandh on the day, said committee secretary Lambodar Kanhar.
