Dhenkanal: The Kamakshyanagar sub-collector and tehsildar were attacked and thrashed after their vehicle hit a cow near Gengutia while they were on their way to Kamakshyanagar from Dhenkanal.

According to sources, sub-collector Kalpataru Behera and Tehsildar Saroj Kumar Swain were attacked and the latter was admitted to the hospital after suffering injuries in hand, back and chest.

The incident occurred when the vehicle in which the officials were travelling hit a cow following which the herdsman hit their vehicle with a stick.  After the Tehsildar came out of the vehicle to prevent the herdsman from doing so, around 5 to 7 people gathered and beat them up.

The Kamakshyanagar police are investigating the matter.

“The Tehsildar was driving with me and another official in the vehicle. On our way a herd of cattle was passing by and to find way the thesildar sounded the horn. Suddenly, the herdsman attacked the vehicle with his stick. When the tehsildar protested, a group of people attacked us,” said Kamakshyanagar sub-Collector, Kalpataru Behera.
