Bhawanipatna: Maoist violence has reared its ugly head once gain in Kalahandi after the red rebels killed a former Sarpanch by slitting his throat. The victim has been identified as Jayant Majhi.

According to sources, Jayant Majhi was brutally killed near Sapachanchala area under Bijepur Police limits. The incident is reported to have taken place late on Tuesday night

Jayant was the former Sarpanch of Trilochanpur Panchayat.

In the meantime, Naxals' have called for a five-state bandh tomorrow to protest the encounter on Andhra Pradesh-Odisha border last month.

Naxals have called for bandh in Andhra, Telangana, Odisha, Chhattisgarh and Maharashtra to protest the `fake' police encounter in Malkangiri district of Odisha in which over two dozen rebels were killed last month.

"We have intensified our combing operations in the Moaist movement areas," said Rayagada SP, K Siba Subramani.

"Police have been alerted and combing operation are on in the border areas," said Malkangiri SP, Mitrabhanu Mohapatra.
