Ginger bags containing ganja worth more than Rs 1 cr seized

Bhawanipatna: Ganja worth more than Rs 1 crore concealed in 120 plastic bags packed with ginger was seized by Kalahandi District Excise staff from a truck which collided with a Bolero vehicle near Depur on Bhawanipatna-Chhatikuda road in Kalahandi district on Friday.

The ganja bags seized during the illegal trafficking were brought to the District Excise office premises while five persons hurt in the collision were admitted to the Bhawanipatna hospital. Later, four out of the five injured undergoing treatment at the hospital went missing.

By the time the State Excise staff reached the spot, the truck driver and helper had managed to flee.

Pramod Banua, ASI of the State Excise department, said, “The truck, which was being chased by our staff, hit the Bolero vehicle while overtaking it.”
