Jagatsinghpur: Justice Bhabani Prasad Ray, who died yesterday, was cremated at his native place Biridi in Jagatsinghpur district today.

Earlier in the day, Ray was given a guard of honour on the High Court premises before his body was taken to his native place at Biridi for cremation. Judges of the High Court, the Advocate General, members of High Court bar association and members of other bar councils were present on the occasion.

In Biridi, his body was taken round the village in a procession and a guard of honour was paid by the district administration.

After the locals paid their last respects, his mortal remains were consigned to the flames at the village cremation ground.

Justice Ray, a sitting judge of Orissa High Court, died on Thursday following a prolonged illness. He was 61.

Justice Ray was first appointed to the Orissa HC judge in 2007. But, he was transferred to the Kerala High Court in 2010. He was again posted as a Judge at the Orissa High Court in 2014. He was born at Biridi in Jagatsinghpur in 1955
