Rourkela: A herd of wild elephants has been reportedly creating havoc in Rourkela for the last couple of days. As per sources a resident of Kopasinga range of Rourkela Forest Division was killed in an elephant attack here on Wednesday. The deceased was identified as Padma Munda.

The pachyderms ran amok in agricultural fields and destroyed several acres of standing crops including the villagers’ houses.

Earlier, jumbo scare had gripped Bisra and Biramitrapur forest ranges under Rourkela. An elephant had trampled a man at Katepur village while a herd of 12 jumbos strayed into human settlement in Raebaga area and damaged as many as six houses and caused widespread crop damage in the region.
