Jeypore: Police today arrested four more persons for their alleged involvement in the murder of one Birajini Khandual that took place in Jeypore town of Koraput district on October 17. The arrested have been identified as Siba Pradhan, Prashant Pradhan, Banabasi Roul and Koraput based jewellery trader B Venkat Rao.

The cops also seized stolen gold ornaments weighing 64 grams. The four were nabbed after interrogation of main accused Aditya Mohanty, who was earlier arrested by the police in this connection.

Sources said after killing Birajini, Aditya, an engineering student, had looted the ornaments from the woman’s house and asked Siba and Prashant to sell the same. Later, Aditya sold the gold items to jewellery trader B Venkat Rao with the help of Roul, Prashant’s brother-in-law.

Police said Aditya, friend of deceased Birajini’s son, had come to Birajini’s house at Jeypore Irrigation Colony when she was alone on October 17.Taking advantage of the situation, the engineering student attempted to loot money from an almirah in the house. Since Aditya was caught by Birajini, he strangulated the latter to death. When Birajini’s husband Prashant Kumar Khandual returned home from Bhubaneswar the next morning, he found his wife ’s dead body lying on the floor.

During interrogation, Aditya confessed to his crime, police added.
