Bhawanipatna: Jaundice is wreaking havoc in Bhawanipatna, the district headquarters of Kalahandi district with 21 patients identified in Ward No. 6. The number of patients is increasing day by day with the disease spreading to other wards also.

According to sources, 63 persons were identified with jaundice in the town and one person of ward no 1 had died due to it.

It is alleged that the water borne disease is spreading through the piped water provided by Public Health and Engineering Department (PHED). As a result of which the District Collector has instructed to put restrictions on some businesses including Ice Cream and Fast Food. An independent team has also been constituted to check the quality of food products.

Similarly, red flags have been planted at various water bodies imposing restrictions on use of the water. School students have been given the charge to spread awareness on the disease.
