Malkangiri: The death toll due to Japanese Encephalitis (JE) reached 82 with three more deaths reported in the district today even as the government admitted the situation has remained grim for last three-four days.

Ramesh Padiami of Daniguda succumbed to the killer disease while undergoing treatment at the district headquarters hospital in the morning while Ramesh Pujari of Katapali under Mathili block and Rasi Madhi of Dangasakhal under Korakanda block died of the vector borne disease two hours after. Sister of Ramesh Padiami also died of the vector borne disease two days ago in the hospital.

Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Nruparaj Sahoo, who is currently in Malkangiri to monitor the government works to prevent the outbreak of the disease, said the situation has not improved as per the expectation.

“The situation has remained grim even as the district administration has taken all possible measures to check the outbreak. The death toll has risen in last three-four days. The Collector is touch with the expert team, which will visit the district after November 3.More investigation will be carried out”, Officer on Special Duty (OSD) Nruparaj Sahoo said.

Meanwhile, another kid died of suspected Encephalitis in Koraput district headquarters hospital.
