Japanese Encephalities: Malkangiri limping back to normalcy

Malkangiri: The Japanese Encephalities (JE) is gradually coming under control even as only one case of death has been reported in last 48 hours while 15 patients have been discharged after being cured in the district headquarters hospitals.

Massive measures have been taken to bring the situation under control. "Fogging Activities have been undertaken and repellent is being sprayed to curb mosquito menace. ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers and other health activists are all active in this regard", Malkangiri District Collector K Sudarshan Chakravarthy said. Awareness campaign has been carried out in villages, he added.

As many as 50 children were discharged in last two days from the hospital after treatment. Out of 61 undergoing treatment, six are stated to be in critical condition. They have been kept in ICU, hospital sources said.

Cooked food is being given from 479 anganwadi centres in Kalimela and Korakonda blocks to pregnant and lactating women and the ailing children, the Collector said.

Arrangements have been made to provide accommodation as well as lunch and dinner to them in the affected villages, he said, adding that the objective was to tackle the problem of malnutrition by providing nutritious food.

While more than 12,000 mosquito nets have so far been distributed among the people in the affected areas, fogging and spraying of repellents have been intensified to check the mosquito menace, the Collector said. .

Notably, the vector-borne disease killed 45 kids in last 33 days.
