Bhubaneswar/New Delhi: Odisha boy Sriyansh Das has brought laurels for the State by winning a gold medal in the Under-8 Boys Category at the Commonwealth Chess Championship in New Delhi.

Sriyansh won the gold medal in the Under-8 category by defeating his Bangladeshi counterpart by 5 points.

Sriyansh hails from Barabati village under Rasulpur block in Jajpur district. His twin brother Priyansh, who also took part in the event in the same age category, was placed ninth.

"My next target is to win gold medal in World Chess Championship," said Sriyansh.

A total of 30 participants from 11 Commonwealth nations participated in the event.

Many Odia chess stars have also shined in the event. Padmini Rout recently won gold in open category while promising chess player Saina Salonika bagged silver in the women’s section at the Commonwealth Chess Championship in the national capital. Besides, Odia lad Mahitosh Dey won a bronze medal in the championship.
