Rourkela: The impasse that had prevailed in Rourkela Sub Jail here last night following a scuffle between the prisoners and the jail staff, was resolved this morning following the transfer of the jailor as per the order of the state Jail department.

Sources said the prisoners alleging poor food quality had a scuffle with the jail staffs last night in which some of them were injured. Later, the prisoners sat on a hunger strike demanding immediate transfer of the jailor who was transferred to the jail three days ago.

Following information, a team of district officials led by sub-collector of Panposh, rushed to the jail but failed to persuade the prisoners to withdraw their strike. Later, a team of police led by the Rourkela SP had also visited the jail for an on-the-spot inquiry.

The prisoners finally withdrew the hunger strike this morning after the state Jail department in an order, transferred the jailor today.

Despite several attempts, the Jail officials were not available for comment.
