Puri: The technical core committee of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) on Tuesday began the repair work of Jagmohan, the hall facing the Jagannath temple here. Sources said, steel framing of the hall began after a spot inspection by ASI officials, two members of temple’s technical committee and superintending engineer of Sri Jagannath Temple Administration (SJTA).

Officials inspecting the construction work said, steel framing of seven pockets will be completed in first phase.

“After that, confinement work of three capital stones and jacketing will be taken up,” an ASI official stated.

In the second and last phase, the steel box framing to support and strengthen the pockets will begin, the sources added. The box framing design, sent to IIT-Chennai for approval is yet to be received by the ASI.

“We hope that the design will be approved by the technical experts of IIT-Chennai,” the official added.

The officials hope to complete the repair work by April next year.

To facilitate the repair work, the SJTA, in consultation with the servitor bodies has decided to complete the rituals of the deities by 12 noon every day. The ASI team will be allowed from 12 noon to 6 pm for the construction work.
