Bhubaneswar: In a fresh development in the schoolteacher Itishree Pradhan murder case, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) submitted a probe report on the incident to the Supreme Court today.

The central investigating agency submitted the report in a sealed envelope. Sources said the next hearing on the case will be held in February, 2018.

Itishree, who was working at Tikiri Upper Primary School in Kashipur block of Rayagada district on contractual basis, was allegedly torched to death after she unsuccessfully persuaded authorities to give her protection as she was facing sexual harassment at the workplace. Itishree had brought sexual harassment allegations against former school sub-inspector (SI) Netrananda Dandasena.

The murder of the lady teacher had turned out to be a major political issue considering the fact that the victim had submitted her grievance at all administrative levels, including the Chief Minister’s Office, but her grievance was left unheard.

Finally, she was burnt alive under mysterious circumstances. While the state government had ordered a Crime Branch probe into the incident, the Supreme Court, on the basis of a PIL, had later ordered for a CBI inquiry.

In April last year, Dandasena was sentenced to life imprisonment for conspiring to kill the lady teacher.
