Telkoi (Keonjhar): Shops, government offices and other institutions remained closed today in Telkoi block of Keonjhar district due to a dawn-to-dusk bandh being observed by locals protesting frequent long hours of unannounced power cut in the area.

The markets and roads in the town wore a deserted look due to the bandh observed by the locals. Vehicular traffic was affected on the NH-49 after locals blocked road at Jagamohanpur. However, following police intervention, the agitating locals agreed to allow buses only to ply on NH-49, providing some relief to commuters.

Locals allege, despite the State government’s announcement of no power cut this summer, the residents of Telkoi have to suffer long hours of unannounced power cuts at a time when scorching heat conditions are prevailing in the area.

As pleas made to the local administration to sort out the power cut issue did not yield any result, they have been forced to hit the streets to press for their demands, the locals added.
