Cuttack: Arrested senior IPS officer Joydeep Nayak was taken to the Choudwar Circle Jail today while the remand application of the State Vigilance for four days will be heard by the Special Vigilance court tomorrow.

Prior to this, Nayak was produced in the residential court of the Special Vigilance Judge at CDA in Cuttack.

Nayak has been brought here on a transit remand after he was in the Ghaziabad chief judicial magistrate (CJM) court.

Notably, Vigilance sleuths yesterday arrested the Tripura-cadre Odia IPS officer from Ghaziabad.

On July 6, the Tripura government had suspended the 1991-batch IPS officer for breaching service rules. Nayak, who was posted as Director, in Fire Service department in Tripura, was later transferred as OSD to State Institute of Public Administration and Rural Development (SIPARD).

The Tripura government initiated action against the official after the Odisha Vigilance department wrote to the former regarding the non-appearance of the officer despite notices sent to him.

Nayak was suspended from service for his alleged involvement in siphoning off Rs 88 lakh meant for computer education of SC/ST students and self help groups (SHGs) in Odisha while he was on deputation in the Human Rights Protection Cell (HRPC) of Odisha police.

To evade arrest, Joydeep had filed anticipatory bail application in the Orissa High Court on June 27.
