IPL betting racket busted in Berhampur; 1 arrested

Berhampur: One person was arrested for alleged involvement in betting on IPL matches during a raid on a house at Pitagundi Sahi under Bada Bazar police limits in the city on Sunday.

Rs 7.91 lakh cash, 175 gram gold jewellery and 10 mobile phones were seized from the possession of the arrested person, identified as E Suresh Kumar.

Police sources said Kumar was the main bookie operating the betting racket in the city.

Trinath patel, ASP, Berhampur, said, “Kumar used to engage agents to undertake IPL betting. After getting a tip-off, we formed a team and raided his den. Many agents are also involved in the betting and the number of arrested persons is likely to go up.”
