Bhubaneswar: The Union Ministry of Commerce will set up a National Investment and Manufacturing Zone (NIMZ) at Kalinga Nagar in Jajpur with an investment of Rs 4,241 crore, Union Petroleum minister Dharmendra Pradhan here yesterday.

Talking to newsmen, Pradhan said, “The first phase of the project, which will generate 1.5 lakh jobs, will be completed by 2020.”

"The approval of this NIMZ project ahead of Prime Minister Modi's visit to Odisha reiterates the Centre's thrust on the development of Odisha and eastern India as a whole," Pradhan said.

Besides witnessing growth of metal industries in the state, the NIMZ would boost the prospects of Paradip Port and improve road, air and rail connectivity in Odisha, besides opening up vast employment opportunities for the youth in the state, Pradhan said.

The proposed project would be a mega industrial zone having a world-class township to cater to the needs of the investors.

The Kalinga Nagar NIMZ, spread over a massive area of 163 sq km, would be the third Investment and Manufacturing Zone of India.

The state government has committed to provide uninterrupted power supply, dedicated industrial feeder and quality physical infrastructure and common facilities for the project.
