Bhubaneswar: The modernisation of Baramunda bus stand into an inter-state bus terminal (ISBT) would be completed by June 2019.

Official sources said, the work of contractor selection and finalisation of engineering drawing for the project will be completed by March 2018 while the construction work is likely to start by June this year.

The officials of the Bhubaneswar Development Authority (BDA) on Thursday presented the concept design of the much-awaited project to the State government.

Sources said the concept designed by the Delhi Integrated Multi Modal Transit System Ltd (DIMTS) had earlier won the bid for architectural design and market assessment studies of the inter-state bus terminal project last year.

At present, nearly 1,000 buses are using the Baramunda bus terminal on a daily basis and it serves as a lifeline for thousands of commuters in the State.

BDA officials informed that the entire project will be built in nearly 15 acre land. The proposed terminal area will be of 9,839 square meters with a ground floor of 4,343 square meters.

As per the proposals, the ISBT will boast of commercial, office and retail spaces, multi level car parking and open public space.

The terminal will ensure passenger pick and drop facilities, prepaid auto and taxi service and the entire complex will also have WiFi connectivity.

The ISBT at Baramunda will have all modern facilities keeping in view the future of mass transport and requirements including passenger information centre and parking for physically challenged and VIPs.

Official sources said BDA had floated tenders for the selection of architectural design for the ISBT project on July 27, 2017.
