Bhubaneswar: After five days of respite from gruelling heat and humidity due to widespread rainfall in most parts of Odisha as a result of Cyclone Roanu, temperature again rose alarmingly in the state, especially in the western Odisha, today with temperature going beyond 40 degree Celsius in 13 places.
Talking to OTV, Mamata Yadav, Director-in-charge, Meteorological Centre, Bhubaneswar, said clear sky conditions in the morning hours has helped in the rise in temperature in Western Odisha.
“Going by the model indicator, the heat wave condition would persist in western and some parts of coastal Odisha for the next 4-5 days. However, there is a possibility of Norwester in some parts of coastal Odisha in the next 24 hours,” she said.
According to a Met release this evening, Balangir and Titlagarh were the hottest place in the state today with 46 degree Celsius each while temperature remained at 40 degrees and above in 11 places. They were: Bhubaneswar (40.5), Angul (43.7), Jharsuguda (45.5), Keonjhar (40), Sambalpur (43.4), Hirakud (45), Talcher (43.6), Bhawanipatna (44.7), Phulbani (42.8) and Sonepur (42.3).
Temperature in the state capital, which was 36 degree Celsius yesterday, jumped to 40.5 degrees today with relative humidity reaching 69 per cent.
However, the denizens got relief from intense humidity as rain accompanied by strong wind lashed the city in the afternoon.
