Bhubaneswar: They came to get their grievances heard and instead landed in a soup. Three teachers from Cuttack district who visited the grievance cell of the School & Mass Education department seeking redressal of their problems were suspended for doing so during school hours without taking leave.

The teachers, identified as Binod Nayak of Jhunjhunwala Bidyapeeth in Barang and Deba Prasad Tripathy and Brahmananda Tripathy of Ranihat High School in Cuttack, visited the grievance cell chaired by School and Mass Education Department Secretary Pradipta Mohaptra today morning.

As per reports, the guidelines stipulate that a teacher can visit the grievance redressal forum on working days only after taking leave from the competent school authorities. When Mohapatra inquired from them about their leave, the trio blatantly lied to him telling that they had taken leave for the day, said sources.

The secretary then rung up the District Education Officer and upon confirmation that the said teachers were lying he suspended them on the grounds of telling lie and dereliction of duty.

Similarly, another teacher has also been served a show-cause notice for attending the grievance cell without taking leave.
