Bargarh: Growing intra-party squabble in Congress is the main reason behind joining BJD, said former legislator Subal Sahu’s son Sumit Sahu.

Speaking to OTV, Sumit said, “My father had become legislator thrice after winning polls on Congress ticket, but he was ignored by the party and so he had decided not to contest on the party ticket.”

“Respecting the wish of my father and people of Bijepur, I have decided to join the BJD. Along with more than 3,000 supporters, I will meet Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik at his residence Naveen Nivas tomorrow and join the ruling party,” he stated.

Asked whether his mother will contest the by-poll, Sumit replied, “Since supporters want her to contest by-elections she may consider that.”

The Bijepur by-poll will be conducted soon as incumbent Congress legislator Subal Sahu passed away on August 22 while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.
