Infant swapping allegation at VIMSAR: Police to conduct DNA test

Sambalpur: In a fresh twist to the allegation of swapping of a baby girl that died at Veer Surendra Sai Institute of Medical Sciences and Research (VIMSAR) in Burla, the police said it would conduct a DNA test of the deceased infant to determine the truth.

Talking to newsmen, Burla police station IIC Tophan Bag said, “Considering the demand and allegation made by the family members of the deceased girl, we have decided to conduct a DNA test to ascertain whether the dead baby girl is theirs or not.”

"Ivestigation into the matter is on and we would conduct the DNA test tomorrow.” Bag informed.

Notably, tension ran high on the premises of VIMSAR in Burla after parents of an infant alleged that their baby girl had been swapped with another child on Saturday.

According to sources, the parents of the baby girl, who are residents of Natakideula area in Samabalpur, brought their baby to Burla hospital from Rairakhol hospital for better treatment at around 11 am yesterday. But, the girl died at 9 pm while undergoing treatment at the government-run hospital.

Following the death of the girl, the parents claimed the baby undergoing treatment at bed number-17 of the SNCU is their daughter and demanded a DNA test.

However, the parents of the girl undergoing treatment at bed number-17 argued that the baby is their daughter.

On being informed about the incident, Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Burla rushed to the medical and started investigation into the matter.
