Infant dies after vaccination; probe initiated

Rourkela: An infant, who was administered a dose DPT vaccine on Wednesday, died within a few hours of the shot, her family alleged.

The three-month-old daughter of one Saroj Sahu was administered the vaccine at their house in Malgodown area under Uditnagar police limits by an Anganwadi worker.

Three hours later, the baby died, the family alleged. The baby died since she was given a higher dose of the vaccine meant for children above 18 months, the family pointed out in their complaint lodged at the Udit Nagar police station.

On receiving information, the Sub-Divisional Medical Officer rushed to the spot for probe. Meanwhile, the incident has triggered a public outcry in the locality. A group of social activists have planned to submit a memorandum to the Sub-Collector and ADM later in the day.
