Bhubaneswar: Normal life has been hit as incessant rains have created flood like situation in Nabarangpur, Kalahandi and Malkangiri districts on Monday.

In Kalahandi, four villages - Khairmal, Kapurmal, Rajamunda and Kuriguma – have been inundated due to a 10-feet breach at Indravati Left Canal near Ghenuguda village under Jaipatna block.

Villagers have been  marooned in the flood waters and a large amount of crops lie destroyed. It has also affected vehicular communication between Mukhiguda and Jaipatna road.

Five gates at Mangalpur Barrage have been opened in view of the flood like situation, said sources.

Flood water has also entered Temera village and flowing on Biripur road in Kalampur block of the district following a swelling of Hati River due to heavy rain.

Nabarangpur-Papadahandi bridge in Taragaon, Papadahandi-Maidalpur bridge in Dhanusuli and Papadahandi-Kodinga bridge in Mokiya have been submerged under flood waters in Nabarangpur.

Meanwhile, vehicular communication in the affected places has been restricted by the district administration hitting traffic between Nabarangpur and Kalahandi.

Heavy rain has also triggered flood like situation in Malkangiri. Road connectivity between Malkangiri and Balimela has also been cut off as four feet high water is flowing over the bridge at Tarlakota in MV-37.
