Impostors arrested for duping garment store owner

Jajpur: Police today arrested two impostors who had allegedly duped a shopkeeper, in the guise of police personnel here in Panikoili area of Jajpur district. His associate has also been held by the police.

According to sources, one Soumyaranjan Pattnaik of Angul along with his accomplice Parthasarathi Dalai of Bhadrak went to Paikamal Bazar on Saturday night to buy clothes.

However, after the shopping was done, Patnaik reportedly introduced himself as the Inspector In-charge of Panikoili police station and asked the shopkeeper to collect the money from the station.

The matter came to the fore when the shopkeeper went to police station to collect money, where he found two people fraudulently took away some garments from him.

After a case was registered, police launched a probe and nabbed the duo from Sathipur area this morning and seized a fake gun from their possession.

“I went for shopping yesterday and after choosing clothes I found that I don’t have enough money. I lied to them that I am the IIC and said I will pay them later. The gun that has been seized from us is actually a cigarette lighter,” said arrested Patnaik.
