Phulbani:  With the arrest of a man and seizure of eight crude pistols from him, police today claimed to have unearthed an illegal gun factory in Odisha's  Kandhamal district.

The man, the owner of the illegal gun factory and the maker too, was arrested from Balliguda, said Inspector in-charge of Balliguda police station, Josobanta Hial.

He was caught from Balliguda market following a tip off and eight pistols and 19 live cartridges were seized from him.

The man was apparently looking for customers in Balliguda market when he was nabbed, Hial said adding he later admitted to his crime.

Police also raided the gun factory and the house of the accused and seized some materials meant for gun making.

The accused, who hails from Kusian village in Boudh district, had allegedly started the factory about two years ago and usually sold handmade guns and pistols in Kandhamal, Boudh and Bolangir districts, Hial added.
