Bhubaneswar: After five rounds of seat allocation at Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), around 421 seats are still lying vacant across all engineering institutes under JEE Advanced admissions including one seat at IIT Bhubaneswar remaining unclaimed.

The unclaimed seat in IIT Bhubaneswar is under the Scheduled Tribe (ST) category and no candidate seems eligible for the seat, as per sources.

In the round five admisssions on Sunday, 69 seats were reassigned as students did not accept the seats allotted by IITs in the previous rounds.

Most of the seats in IIT-Kharagpur, IIT-Tirupati, IIT (BHU) Varanasi and Indian School of Mines (ISM) Dhanbad, among others are yet to be filled. On the other hand, all seats were taken up in IIT-Bombay after the second round of seat allotment.

Two more rounds of seat allocation are yet to go and as students can withdraw admissions till the sixth round, many seats are still lying vacant. However, it is believed that with the completion of the seventh round, all seats would be filled.
