IIC roughed up after liquor raid in Puri

Puri: In a glaring example of deteriorating law and order situation, a police inspector returning after  a liquor raid, was thrashed by a mob at Kakatpur in Puri on Wednesday.

According to information, tension erupted at Dahikhia village when a team led by Kakatpur Police Station IIC raided the area suspecting illegal liquor sale. During the raid the cops allegedly hit a youth sparking unrest.

Soon after, the police left for nearby Kendrapati village for another raid where the locals detained them for nearly two hours. During their return, some villagers of Dahikhia thrashed the IIC black and blue.Road communication between Kakatpur and Astarang was also hit as villagers staged a road blockade.

Apprehending any further flare up, the district administration deployed two platoons of police force in the area.
