Cuttack: Vigilance sleuths on Thursday arrested Haramohan Nayak, the inspector-in-charge (IIC) of Narasinghpur police station in Cuttack district, for demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs 5,000 from Cuttack Vigilance Constable Sushant Samal.

Complainant Samal alleged that the IIC had demanded the bribe after he requested him to settle a land dispute lodged against himself. Later, the Constable reported the matter to Vigilance officials following which a trap was laid and the IIC was caught red-handed.

After arresting Nayak, Vigilance officials raided his Government quarters at Narasinghpur and his house at Mahisapata in Dhenkanal simultaneously. During the search, the teams seized many important documents. Investigation is on into the matter, said Vigilance Cuttack Division DSP Ananta Narayan Mohanty.
