Rourkela: Stating that he has full faith on the judicial system, Biramitrapur MLA George Tirkey said his son should be punished if rape charges are proved against him.

“The woman who brought the charges has not contacted or approached me. As she has filed a complaint, she should get justice. Even I have full faith on the judiciary and we will also challenge her case. If my son is guilty then he should be punished,” said George.

Meanwhile, Police have begun probe into the rape charges brought against George’s son Rakesh.

According to sources, based on a complaint filed by a woman who alleged Rakesh of rape on pretext of marriage, police have registered a case under sections 376 & 294 of IPC.

As per the FIR, the woman has identified herself as a bank employee.

“As a part of the investigation we have recorded the statement of the woman and are investigating other aspects mentioned in the FIR,” said Rourkela SP.

“Over the past 9 months I have been approaching him but to no avail. Rakesh had physical relationship with me since 2014 till 2016. After 2016, he snapped all contacts with me and got secretly engaged to another girl. I have filed a case against Rakesh because he betrayed me after developing a physical relationship on the pretext of marriage. I wanted this personal matter to be resolved with the help of his family members who in turn looked down upon me and didn’t cooperate,” alleged the complainant.
