Bhubaneswar: For the 70th Independence Day celebrations in Bhubaneswar, the Commissionerate Police has announced diversions and restriction of traffic movement in the Capital city.

For the rehearsals, full dress rehearsal and Independence Day Parade, the traffic restrictions will be effective on the Mahatma Gandhi Marg and its periphery on 11th and 12th August from 2pm to 5pm, from 7am to 10.30am on 13th August and from 6.30 am till the completion of the function on August 15.

According to the notification issued by the Commissionerate Police, all the lanes and by lanes connecting to MG Marg would be sealed and only pedestrians would be allowed to go to the parade venue.

No heavy vehicles would be allowed to ply towards Master Canteen Square either from Ram Mandir crossing or from Rajmahal Square. However, two wheelers and light motor vehicles would be allowed from Rajmahal Square towards Ram Mandir through Master Canteen square. But no vehicle would be allowed to turn towards PMG square or MG Marg till the parade is over, the notification said.

Similarly, no vehicles would be allowed to come towards Rabindra Mandap crossing from Housing Board side and would be diverted to Keshari Talkies.

Vehicles coming towards PMG square from AG Square will be diverted from Jaydev Bhawan towards IDCOL auditorium.

This apart, all vehicles coming from 120 Battalion square side towards Rabindra Mandap would be diverted at MLA colony crossing towards Unit-IV.

Further, the Police Commissionerate has created designated parking spots at BDA Bus Stand near Railway Station, near Congress Bhawan, IDCOL Auditorium, Jaydev Bhawan, SBI Unit-III, Rabindra Mandap and Unit-II Girl’s High School Ground.

“To tighten the security arrangements during the Independence Day Parade, 25 platoons of police force will be deployed and as many as 50 CCTV cameras would be installed,” informed Commissioner YB Khurania.

Police have also prohibited sale of gas balloon in the parade venue between PMG square to Master Canteen on August 15 from 6:30 am till the end of the parade.

The notification also mentioned that fines will be imposed from Rs 500 to Rs 1000 if anyone is found violating the orders.
