House passes bill on salary hike of MLAs

Bhubaneswar: The State Assembly on Tuesday passed the Odisha Legislative Assembly Members' Salary, Allowance and Pension (Amendment) Bill.

Daily allowance of the Leader of Opposition, Chief Whip and Deputy Chief Whip has been increased from Rs 800 to Rs 1,500.

Similarly, daily allowance of the Speaker, Deputy Speaker and Council of Ministers was increased from Rs 150 to Rs 800.

Members of the State Assembly will get daily allowance basing on the number of days the House functions.

While the current monthly salary of the Speaker is Rs 97,500, the Deputy Speaker draws a salary of Rs 95,000.

The Chief Whip gets a salary of Rs 97,000, whereas the Deputy Chief Whip and Leader of Opposition are paid Rs 93,000 and Rs 97,000 respectively. Similarly, the members of the Council of Ministers take home a salary of Rs 97,000 each.

It may be noted that Tuesday was the last day of Budget session.
