Bhubaneswar: In a suspected case of honour killing, a 14-year-old girl was allegedly killed by her father in Pandesara of Surat.

The accused, an employee in a textile weaving unit and a resident of Hariom Nagar in Pandesara, has been arrested after he allegedly strangulated his daughter to death.

According to sources, the girl, a class 8 student, was six months pregnant from a relationship that was not acceptable to the family.

After coming to know about the girl’s pregnancy, the family members wanted to know from her about the man who impregnated her but she refused to divulge any details. Irked, her father, on pretext of taking her to Dumas beach, took her to an isolated place on June 29 and allegedly strangulated her, sources added.

Police recovered the body from a field near Surat Airport and started investigating into the incident.

"The minor was strangulated by her father. Investigations revealed that the girl was pregnant. This is a pure case of honour killing. The father has confessed to killing his daughter and we have arrested him. Further investigation is on,” said Surat ACP Jaya Padya.
