Cuttack: Sandeep Hati, a sacked home guard of the Commissionerate Police who attempted self-immolation by setting himself on fire near the Naveen Nivas on September 2, died while undergoing treatment at SCB medical college and hospital here on Sunday morning.

According to sources, 65 per cent of his body parts were burnt and he was undergoing treatment at the Plastic Surgery department of the government-run hospital.

He was shifted to trauma ICU yesterday after his health condition worsened. But he succumbed to his born injuries in the wee hours of today, medical sources said, adding that his body was handed over to his family members after the postmortem.

Meanwhile, home guards’ association has demanded to provide Rs 15 lakh compensation to the family members of Hati and a job to his wife. Besides, they also demanded to probe under what circumstance some other home guards were also sacked three years ago.

Bhubaneswar DCP Satyabrata Bhoi is probing whay and under what circumstances Hati was sacked from his job.

Notably on September 2, Hati, came from Palas Palli area here, attempted to commit suicide by pouring kerosene on him and setting himself ablaze. When he started running towards the Naveen Nivas, security personnel who were on duty took hold of him in unconscious condition. He was first rushed to Capital Hospital andlater shifted to the SCB Medical College and Hospital as his condition deteriorated.
