Nayagarh: A woman in Nayagarh has waged a battle against her in-laws for allegedly not accepting her ‘dead child’.

Protesting ill-treatment over an ongoing family feud, the woman identified as Lipi Sahu has sat on a dharna outside her in-laws house which is locked, at Barabati area under Nayagarh town police asking them to conduct his last rites.

According to reports, Lipi had delivered a baby boy five days back. However, the infant died after his condition deteriorated at a private hospital in Cuttack.

Since then her in-laws have reportedly ‘gone missing’ after locking their house at Barabati village in Nayagarh.

“Though I had informed my in-laws about the death of my child, they did not respond. Why they do not want to accept I have no idea. It is my child and if nobody does the last rites I would do on my own,” said Lipi.

The villagers on the other hand have appealed to the district and police administration to resolve the dispute.

“We have already informed the father-in-law of the woman to conduct the funeral. We would take appropriate action after going thorough the exact reason behind the family feud,” said Inspector-in-charge of Nayagarh police station Rashmiranjan Patnaik said.
