Bolangir: Eminent historian and senior epigraphist (study of inscriptions) Sadanand Agrawal passed away here today. He was 65.

Agrawal was taken ill and shifted from his residence at Menda to Bolangir district headquarters hospital where he died at around 4 am.

Known for his extensive research on western Odisha history Agrawal lacked any formal higher education, but had earned  fame in the field of history. He was a pioneer in epigraphy and had dedicated his life to neglected history of western Odisha.

Sadanand had penned some important books, essays, research papers on history of western districts like Sonepur, Bolangir. Some of his noted works include History of Sonepur and Koshal, Two Copper Plate Grants from Western Orissa and several others which are now subjects in post graduation and research levels at several universities.
