Sambalpur: With the water level in its reservoir increasing due to rains in the upper reaches of Mahanadi, the Hirakud dam on Thursday opened two more sluice gates to release the flood water.

According to reports, the excess water of the dam is being released by 12 sluice gates.

The water level in the dam was recorded at 624.89 feet by 6 am today. While 1,98,598 cusec water is entering the dam, 2,13,689 cusec water is being released, dam official said.

This is the third time, the dam is releasing excess water in this season and there are no possibilities of flood in the state due to release of excess water, dam official added.

Depending on the situation, we will decide whether to open one more sluice gate or not to release the water, he informed.
